Brandon Sanderson has bad news about the ‘Mistborn’ movie

While the Sandersonverse novels have continued to grow, it seems like bringing them to the big screen will continue to be an unreachable dream for now.

After the successful release of ‘Wind and Truth’, the fifth installment of ‘The Stormlight Archive’, it might seem that everything is going well for Brandon Sanderson. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. The highly successful writer still has pending tasks that elude him for different reasons, and when it seemed that he was finally going to fulfill one of his great dreams with ‘Mistborn’, the situation took an unexpected turn.

As Sanderson himself revealed through a new entry on his official blog, the live-action ‘Mistborn’ movie is completely paralyzed. “It’s tricky to point to where it got because this project did a lot more internal development than is usual—so it had basically done all of Step Seven before going out to pitch to studios. It got offers of development deals from studios, but no production deal, and the partners I had did not want to go back to script after all the work they did.”

Sanderson has been trying to get the Mistborn movie off the ground for a decade

Sanderson also spoke of creative differences with producers, since the studio wanted to do it one way and they wanted to do it another way. This caused the adaptation of ‘Mistborn’ to go from being very advanced to returning to square one, which frustrated the agreements they already had with different stars from Hollywood, whose identities cannot be revealed (Henry Cavill was not one of them, at least). “Now that that has fallen through, I’m back to square one, basically, on the Cosmere,” the writer concluded.
