Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon reveals its launch date with a new gameplay trailer

Callsign Raven, ready to sortie. Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon just got an official release date in a new gameplay trailer that gives fans of FromSoftware’s classic mech franchise tons of details, and that leaves newcomers sort of befuddled. Releasing on August 25, 2023, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, you can get hyped for giant robot combat with the trailer below.

Armored Core: Mechs, missiles, melee, and more

From what we were able to garner just from watching this new gameplay trailer, fans of the Armored Core series have nothing to worry about when it comes to the basic formula of the game. While we still don’t know how the title will be structured in regard to its missions or overall gameplay, the basic combat and maneuverability of the titular machines seem to be a mixture of the original trilogy’s weight, AC4′s high-speed action, and ACV’s larger map structures. Of course, all of it mixed together would mean this could be the ultimate AC game we’ve wished for ever since Verdict Day’s servers closed down for good almost ten years ago.

As for what’s new in this upcoming FromSoftware game, we could be seeing the inspiration of their recent works in the form of even more enemy variety, with the trailer showcasing some epic boss encounters in the form of even bigger giant robots. From huge tanks to something that we can only describe as a mech version of a biblically accurate angel, it’s looking like Fires of Rubicon is building from what’s come before.

There’s also an entirely new plot, which happens in a new timeline once again, far from earth in a distant planet. As Bandai Namco themselves shared through a press release: “A mysterious new substance called “Coral” was discovered on the remote planet, Rubicon 3. As an energy source, this substance was expected to dramatically advance humanity’s technological and communications capabilities. Instead, it caused a catastrophe that engulfed the planet and the surrounding stars in flames and storms, forming a Burning Star System.”

“Almost half a century later, Coral has resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off by the catastrophe. Extra-terrestrial corporations and resistance groups fight over control of the substance. The player infiltrates Rubicon as an independent mercenary and finds themselves in a struggle over the substance with the corporations and other factions.”

Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon is almost here, so it’s time to suit up and get ready for some unforgiving Mech combat, and even more existential dread courtesy of FromSoftware.
