Assassin’s Creed Hexe will seemingly let you cast spells on cats to distract soldiers

The upcoming Assassin’s Creed Hexe is set to come in 2026 with a female protagonist, spell-casting, cats, 16th-century German soldiers, and more.

The fact that Ubisoft has numerous Assassin’s Creed games in development is well known, but they’ve only confirmed a couple of projects so far. One of them is Assassin’s Creed Red, a huge open-world RPG set in feudal Japan and scheduled for this fiscal year (it was leaked that it would arrive in 2024). The other is known under the codename Hexe, a title that will take place in the time of the Holy Roman Empire and will touch on the theme of witches (hence the code name). According to Tom Henderson, journalist for Insider Gaming which has reliable sources within Ubisoft, its production is in the early stages of development and is not expected until 2026. Perhaps what has attracted the most attention is that the protagonist will be able to perform spells and possess animals to control them.

According to this information, Hexe will be a more linear experience than its predecessors, but it will implement exploration elements of open-world games, something more similar to the classic formula in that sense. While Codename Red will have a male and a female protagonist, the next game will star a woman, which at the time of writing apparently goes by the name of Elsa. Like other descendants of the Isu - the species that previously inhabited Earth and that created humans in the lore of the saga - she will have some type of supernatural power.

One kitten to rule them all

Insider Gaming has received footage of Assassin’s Creed Hexe under the condition of not releasing it publicly, although it has been allowed to describe it. In it,Elsa is pursued by German soldiers of the 16th century in a dark and urban environment, and she uses her magic to possess a cat, which the player controls to distract the soldiers. The feline breaks a bottle and diverts the guard’s attention.

Another detail to take into account is that the developers plan to introduce a horror system inspired by the one implemented in the Jack the Ripper DLC of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, although it has not been detailed what it will be like.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the most recent title in the saga, a game closer to the original formula available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. The next games will be part of Infinity, the hub that will bring together all of the future content.
