Assassin’s Creed takes leap of faith into VR with AC: Nexus; reveals more about Codename Jade and Mirage

During their Ubisoft Forward, they showed the different Assassin’s Creed installments they have in store for different platforms.

For more than 15 years, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has been one of Ubisoft’s mainstays. During this Ubisoft Forward, the French company presented the future of this franchise, not only on consoles, but also on other platforms to explore new ways of playing.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR

A new Assassin’s Creed created from the ground up exclusively for Meta Quest 2, the title will put players in a first-person perspective for the first time to become a master assassin. The title will allow us to explore different times and places with three of the franchise’s most popular Brotherhood members: Kassandra, Connor and Ezio. The game will allow us to do three of the most characteristic aspects of this franchise: parkour, combat and, of course, assassination.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR will tell an entirely new story for a single player campaign. To tie the stories of these three characters together, the story will take us to Absertgo Industries, where they are trying to process and study the lives of these assassins through their memories in order to search for a lost technology that can alter people’s minds.

The environments will be “open maps” where you can climb and parkour anywhere, giving you the freedom to complete the missions as you wish. Many of the moves we saw in the games will allow us to use classic weapons like blades or bows. Something that stood out were the comfort features for players sensitive to virtual reality, such as the teleport locomotion to improve how you can climb, or systems to help players who are afraid of heights.

Currently, Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR does not have a release date.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade

Several months after its presentation, the open world title for smartphones is back with new details. One of the first details to note is that the title is being developed in collaboration with Level Infinite, with whom they are also working on The Division Resurgence. As previously announced, Codename Jade aims to bring an authentic Assassin’s Creed experience to iOS and Android.

After a successful pre-alpha on iOS, Ubisoft announced today, June 12, that pre-registration is now open for the public phase, which will begin this summer. This test will give a small number of players access to an early version of the game to get feedback to “ensure it delivers the Assassin’s Creed gameplay, story and visuals that players have come to expect from the franchise”. As for the controls, the company is making sure that they are best suited for mobile devices and that they feel natural and intuitive.

For now, Codename Jade is still in development, but we will learn more about the title when it goes into public testing sometime this summer. Interested parties can sign up at this link.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

The release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage is fast approaching on October 12th. While we already know some of the details of this title, such as its return to its roots focusing on stealth, parkour and assassination, new details about this title have been revealed.

The city of Baghdad that we will travel through will be similar in size to Paris or Constantinople, allowing Basim to cover the city from its rooftops or narrow streets. Mirage will take place at a key moment in both the region and the history of the Assassins, as seen in the new story trailer.

Along with this, we had an extended gameplay of about 8 minutes where we could see the three pillars of the franchise applied to a Basim’s mission. In addition to the familiar weapons, Basim uses some tools like smoke bombs and traps to escape when fighting or stealth is no longer enough.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is being developed by the Ubisoft studio in Bordeaux with the support of 11 other studios in cities such as Montreal, Quebec, Montpellier, Singapore, and others. The title will arrive at a lower price, at 50 dollars for the standard version and 60 dollars for the deluxe version.
