‘Avengers 5’ is now without a director, and Marvel seems to be moving away from Kang in the MCU

Destin Daniel Cretton has left the ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ production to focus on ‘Shang-Chi 2′ and ‘Wonder Man’.

There are new rumblings in Marvel Studios after the disappointing box office performance of ‘The Marvels’. So much so, that the long-awaited crossover film ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ has been left without its director, Destin Daniel Cretton, who is now going to focus his efforts on both the sequel to ‘Shang-Chi’ (a film he directed himself) as on the upcoming ‘Wonder Man’ series for Disney+. This was reported by Deadline, revealing the setbacks that the company is currently facing after criticism for the drop in quality of its productions and their poor performance at the box office - such as the recent examples of ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ - and low number of viewers of their series.

‘Avengers 5′ is now in production limbo

So, Destin Daniel Cretton leaves to work on ‘Shang-Chi 2′, in addition to taking care of a good part of the production of the ‘Wonder Man’ series, of which he will direct its first two episodes, in addition to being its executive producer. All this adds to the uncertainty about Kang’s future in the MCU, with his actor, Jonathan Majors, pending trial for assault, something that could leave the actor from ‘Lovecraft Country’ and ‘Creed 3′ out of the Marvel Universe altogether.

Furthermore, the latest rumors place screenwriter Jeff Loveness out of ‘Avengers 5′ for being too involved with the character, which raises new doubts about the presence or not of the villain in the future of the MCU. Don’t forget that the end of ‘Loki’ Season 2 left the doors open to do without Kang in the future since now Loki himself is in charge of running the throne of infinite timelines from the Marvel Studios multiverse.

Will Marvel Studios keep their plans with ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’? Or will ithey jump directly to ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ to put an end to the current Multiverse Saga? We will have to wait until 2026 or 2027 to know the answer.
