Baldur’s Gate 3 - how to get experience and level up quickly

With the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 just around the corner, here are some tips on how to get as powerful as possible fast and easy.

Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 is almost here, and besides coming with hundreds of hours of content and RPG goodness, it will also bring with it quite a challenge for players who aren’t used to this style of game. With plenty of character classes available, hundreds of skills and abilities to unlock and learn, and large amounts of party sizes, some players might feel lost.

So how can you make sure you’re gaining enough experience to level up fast and face the game’s encounters as best as possible? We’ve got a few tips on what you might want to do to make sure you’re up to the challenge, once the game releases on August 6, 2023.

How to level up fast in Baldur’s Gate 3?

If you want to see everything that the game has to offer, you’ll want to make sure you gain as much experience as possible while exploring Baldur’s Gate 3. After all XP allows you to level up, and every level you gain gives you more skills to upgrade your party with. Eventually you’ll be extremely powerful, but before that happens, you’ll want to be up to the task.

Before you begin, it’s important to remember that the max level you can reach is 12. That might seem low when compared with other games, but as the title follows the rules set by the tabletop version of Dungeons & Dragons, it means you won’t be able to bring your heroes to god-tier levels of power. It’s still a lot of power though, and more than was originally planned by the developers.

Without further ado, here are some tips on what to do to level up as fast as possible, regardless of your starting class:

Fight everything

Combat is the meat and bones of this type of RPG, but as you always have the option of avoiding combat, some might choose to do so. However, it’s also a great way to earn experience fast. Every combat encounter will reward you with XP, and more often than not killing things gives you more XP than talking your way out of a fight.

However, doing so could go against what you want for your hero. This is a sacrifice you’ll have to make in the name of leveling up fast. Unless you play a Barbarian, in which case, this should be just about perfect for you.

Questing and sidequesting

There’s many people around Faerun that are looking for help, and while there’s not always a big money reward, or not everything will lead you in the direction of strong weapons and items, every one of them is good XP.

Talk to everyone and accept every quest you stumble upon, from Main quests to side quests and small missions in-between, and sooner rather than later you’ll have attained max level. Plus, these usually have combat in them, so that means even more experience gained.

Explore every last corner of the world

This should be obvious, but you really have to see everything in the game to find more quests and enemies. However, almost every action you can do in-game leads to more experience. Opening chests, completing puzzles, disarming traps, or having conversations with NPCs: if you click on anything you’re sure to find something to do that’ll reward you with XP.

And we really mean everything. From getting loot to succeeding in ability rolls, you won’t really want to skip any sort of content if you want to level up.
