How long does it take to beat Baldur’s Gate 3? Gameplay hours for the main story and 100% completion

Larian Studios has shared new information about the upcoming Baldur’s Gate 3, and it looks like huge amounts of content that’ll last you a long time.

Update:
Baldurs Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most anticipated RPG in recent years by millions of players. It is a legendary franchise and almost 25 years have passed since we saw the second installment, which is considered one of the best role-playing games in history. It’s name was already enough for expectations to shoot through the roof, but new details shared by Larian Studios have only increased the hype.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a huge game

Although many things remain to be revealed, Larian has shared some details that have left us speechless. The numbers are spectacular and allow us to see that we are facing a really huge game that will have more cutscenes than all seasons of Game of Thrones combined!

  • The game will contain more than triple the amount of dialogue than all the Lord of the Rings books combined. The Baldur’s Gate 3 script contains over 2 million words
  • Over 170 hours of cinematics, twice the length of all seasons of Game of Thrones combined
  • 7 playable protagonists with their own stories. In addition, there’s a complete character creator to customize one to your liking
  • Up to 11 selectable races and 31 sub-races at launch, with various body types and exclusive features for each.
  • 12 classes and 46 subclasses, compared to the 10 “spell schools” in Divinity: Original Sin 2
  • More than 600 spells and skills. In Divinity: 2 Original Sin there were 225

How long will it take you to beat Baldur’s Gate 3

So with all of this in mind, one might be wondering how long it could take you to finish the game. According to Larian Studios’ boss, Swen Vincke, the developer team is clocking in regular playthroughs of “between 74 and 100 hours” to finish the game. But that is only when focusing on the main story of the game.

“That’s not doing everything, that is just going to be a playthrough. There will be people who will be way over that, the ones who want to do everything. They will probably hit 200 hours, I think. On average we’re seeing people who are going through take about 75 to 100 hours,” he said.

But there’s an even more important thing to consider, and that is the fact that if your playing in multiplayer it’ could take you over a year to finish the game alongside your friends. ”There are multiple ways of playing it, right?” Vincke said. “We saw that with [Divinity: Original Sin 2] and it will be no different here. People who are going to be playing in multiplayer, they’ll take a year, a year-and-a-half. They will make their regular sessions where they play, like D&D.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 Release Date

We are totally used to a video game delaying its release date, but not so much to bringing it forward. In the case of Baldur’s Gate 3, the PC version will be on sale almost 30 days ahead of schedule: on August 3, 2023. However, the version for PS5 has delayed its launch for a few days.

As you well know, the long-awaited RPG will not come to Xbox Series X | S, at least for now; at the time it was canceled due to problems implementing its cooperative multiplayer on Xbox Series S, although Larian Studios confirmed that there is no exclusive with Sony, so the doors to launch the game on Microsoft consoles are not closed.
