Baldur’s Gate 3 Lead Writer Confirms Best Class in Game

Adam Smith, Lead Writer for Baldur’s Gate 3, shares his two favorite classes from the upcoming title and what makes them stand out from the rest.

Baldur's Gate 3

We recently got a deep look at what Larian Studios has in its hands, and it is one of the greatest RPGs ever created. Lovers of classic pen and paper role-playing games have an unmissable date in just a few weeks (on PC, a little more on PS5) with Baldur’s Gate 3, which, as we know, will feature up to 12 different classes. Choosing one of them wisely will be one of the first important decisions we have to make, but... Which one will be chosen in the end? The lead writer of the Belgian studio helps us out.

Which class to choose in Baldur’s Gate 3?

“A Monk’s great because they’re so quick,” assures Adam Smith, the game’s lead writer, in an interview with Games Radar. “Once you get to level six or seven, it feels like you’re taking five turns for anyone else’s one turn because you’re running around darting all over the place.”

But aside from that, Smith gives a reason that will be compelling... to Star Wars fans, and that is that the Deflect Missiles ability is useful when it comes to dodging projectiles. “It’s like having a lightsaber,” Smith says flatly. He also mentions that they are a very good class for those who want to dispense with companions or want to go in a small group, as they are also skilled at stealth.

However, from an RPG standpoint, Smith also mentions the Paladin as an option to consider. “Paladin is probably still my favourite class,” he says, because it’s a class dedicated to uphold justice and righteousness. “There are certain things that you can do that go against your oath, and if you do that, then you literally get visited by a guy called the Oathbreaker, this sinister Knight. It’s f***ing awesome. It’s this whole moment just for this one class.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released this coming August 3rd on PC, this date was moved up only for this version. The PS5 version has been delayed a few days and will finally arrive on September 6th.
