Baldur’s Gate 3 surpasses Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as Game of the Year in Metacritic

The race for the Game of the Year 2023 award gets tighter by the day with Baldur’s Gate 3 shooting to the top, and with Starfield just a month away.

Just when we all thought that this year’s GOTY would be a fight between Tears of the Kingdom and Starfield, Larian Studios seemingly took out one of the best RPGs of the last decade out of their sleeves. And proof of that is the game’s average score on Metacritic. In said portal (in charge of gathering criticism from the international press), Baldur’s Gate 3 has an average of 97 compared to The Legend of Zelda’s 96.

It is true that there are still very few reviews out, but what’s there is not a lie. In user ratings, already close to 3,000, Baldur’s Gate 3 has an average grade of 93, while Tears of the Kingdom stays at 86 (with 8,000 scores, mind you). What is certain is that there is a new unexpected contender in the Game of the Year race.
