Be careful if you see MrBeast on TikTok, it may be a scam

A new type of scam is circulating on social media such as TikTok, where DeepFake and AI are being used to fake celebrities, as in the case of MrBeast.

MrBeast

The use of artificial intelligence has been on the rise in recent years, and while it has already caused some problems in the professional sphere, it is now starting to be used for more dangerous issues. Such is the case of Internet scams, and this time it is not about African princes or pensioners who want to donate money to you, but about usurping the identity of Internet celebrities with the promise of giving you things, as in the case of MrBeast and the supposed Tik Tok advertisement of him assuring $2 iPhones.

The MrBeast ad features an artificial intelligence rendition of Donaldson, dressed in a pink sweatshirt and gray baseball cap. The voice in the clip, which does not resemble the Youtuber affirms that just a certain number of people are eligible for the stated prize.

“If you’re watching this video, you’re one of the 10,000 lucky people who will get an iPhone 15 Pro for just $2,” the voice says in the video. “I’m MrBeast and I’m doing the world’s largest iPhone 15 giveaway. Click the link below to claim yours now.”

Meanwhile, the real MrBeast is not happy with this kind of ads

“Lots of people are getting this deepfake scam ad of me ... are social media platforms ready to handle the rise of AI deepfakes? This is a serious problem,” MrBeast posted on Twitter, now X.

As of this post, the ad has already been removed by TikTok.

What are Deepfakes?

Deepfakes are a type of fake media where one person’s face is digitally swapped with another’s. This technology has vastly improved, making it harder to spot deepfake videos and images. Despite some imperfections in the MrBeast ad, like occasional lip-sync errors, where the mouth movement differs from the spoken words, it reveals the rising authenticity of artificial intelligence and its potential to deceive.
