‘Black Myth: Wukong’: release date, Xbox availability, is it soulslike, and everything you need to know

Many called it the ‘Monkey King Dark Souls’, but there’s much more to Black Myth: Wukong, the upcoming action RPG that promises to push consoles to its limits.

At this point in the year, it is common for the pace of releases to relax, since the marathon of new titles usually takes place in both spring and autumn. However, this summer will be different, since August and part of September bring with them highly anticipated games such as Star Wars Outlaws, Astro Bot, and Black Myth: Wukong.

Many people call it ‘the Dark Souls of Monkeys’, but does that make any sense? The truth is that no, since Black Myth: Wukong is not a soulslike and has practically nothing to do with FromSoftware games (Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Dark Souls...). We’ll tell you how it plays, when it comes out, and everything you need to know about it.

When does Black Myth: Wukong come out?

Black Myth: Wukong launches on August 20 on PS5 and PC.

How Black Myth: Wukong plays like

It is an action-adventure in which players must make combat against enemies, where bosses have a lot of prominence. It is neither a soulslike nor is it an open-world game. Instead, the proposal is a linear Action RPG, although the levels have alternative paths that allow you to find treasures and optional enemies.

Black Myth: Wukong has a changing difficulty system that adapts to each player. For example, if you fight bosses and beat them very quickly, the game will interpret that you have a high skill level and will make things more difficult for you in later phases. There will also be various characters to meet, whose stories you can delve into. The game is single-player only, so there are no multiplayer mechanics.

As for the duration of Black Myth: Wukong, there is talk of about 15-20 hours for the main content, although there are surely several more in store if you’re looking to finish it 100%.

Is Black Myth: Wukong coming to Xbox?

The question is not trivial, since the Xbox Series X|S version of Black Myth: Wukong is not releasing alongside the PC version. But Microsoft console users should not worry because the game has not been canceled, only delayed. In fact, its developers recently stated that They are working to optimize it on Xbox and assure that they will try to release it as soon as possible.
