The Diablo franchise is about to get the Blood Knight, it’s first new class in almost a decade. But it’s not in the Diablo game many fans hoped for.

Blizzard is releasing a new Diablo class, but you won’t be able to enjoy it in Diablo IV

Blizzard recently announced an entirely new class that is making its way to the Diablo Franchise. The Blood Knight, a vampiric warrior that specializes in polearms and blood magic, will be available soon… on Diablo Immortal.

The slightly underwhelming news were shared by the developers during the recent developer update live stream on July 13, where they also revealed the first details of Diablo IV’s first season. While that news is also very exciting, the arrival of the Blood Knight is still a very important moment in the history of the franchise. Albeit one that just as the game it’s coming to, doesn’t quite land as well as one would hope.

The Blood Knight will be the seventh playable class in the mobile game, alongside the Barbarian, Demon Hunter, Wizard, Monk, Necromancer, and Crusader. It is described as a “melee hybrid”, with abilities that allow him to transform into an Abomination to rip and tear through hell’s hordes. Perhaps more intriguing is the fact that this class comes from vampires, which in Sanctuary are believed to be a “living plague”. A Blood Knight is a human that has been bitten by a vampire, but that has been submitted to an ancient ritual to stop them from becoming mindless Thralls.

The first Diablo class in 9 years

Be as it may, the arrival of a new class is an exciting event for Diablo fans. Ever since Blizzard unveiled the Crusader in Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, no other class has been introduced. In Diablo IV we only got returning classes from previous entries of the series, and while we know that more are on their way through the expansions that the devs are already working on, some players would have loved seeing something different from the start.

Diablo Immortal is a free-to-play action RPG, available on Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as on PC. Even with its negative reception it’s proven to be an absolute success for Blizzard, and maintains a healthy community up to this day.
