Brandon Sanderson explains why there is still no movie or series about ‘The Stormlight Archive’: “I don’t feel it’s the right time”
The author exposes a major problem with recent adaptations of major epic fantasy works.

Brandon Sanderson is one of today’s most famous and prolific authors, with tens of millions of copies sold worldwide, yet none of his works have been adapted for film or television. Yet none of his works have been adapted for film or television, and that is something that many people miss. How is it possible that a saga as successful and with as much potential as ‘The Storm Archive’ has not yet made that leap? The author talked about this in an interview with Polygon.
Sanderson commented that although he has received several tempting offers to bring ‘The Storm Archive’ to streaming platforms and television networks, he has decided to turn them all down because he feels it’s not the right time. One of the main reasons that led him to this decision has to do with the current state of the streaming market. According to the author, these platforms have a problem with epic fantasy that concerns him greatly. “‘Rings of Power’ and ‘Wheel of Time’ have not gone as well as I would’ve hoped. ‘Shadow and Bone’ lasted only two seasons, after a very strong first season. Streaming hasn’t figured out epic fantasy yet,” he said.

Sanderson wants to bring his great saga to the big screen and write part of the script himself
As far as ‘The Stormlight Archive’ is concerned, Sanderson stated that if ‘The Way of Kings’, the first part of the saga, were to be adapted, he would like to be deeply involved in the creative process. In fact, one of his conditions for doing the project would be to write all the dialogue for the Kaladin scenes himself, which would logically take a lot of time away from working on more Cosmere books.
Afterwards, he expressed that he would prefer to see a movie adaptation rather than a TV series, as he feels that epic fantasy does not fit well with the consumption habits of people who subscribe to Netflix and the like; there are too many people who watch shows while using their cell phones, and that is a problem. Nevertheless, Sanderson reiterated that he is more than open to the idea of bringing The Storm Archive to the big screen. For now, he prefers to wait for the market to stabilize and try other adaptations to learn more about how the industry works.
