Chris Evans will return to the MCU in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
The Multiverse Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will live up to its name, as Chris Evans is the next name to sign up for a return to the Marvel Studios superhero saga.
The Avengers might be having a reunion on the big screen after all. It’s just been revealed that Chris Evans, who played Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe all throughout the first 3 phases of the Infinity Saga up until “Avengers: Endgame”, will be returning as part of the cast of “Avengers: Doomsday” alongside Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
The news was revealed by The Wrap, stating that while the actor has signed up for the massive crossover project by Marvel Studios, details about his participation have yet to be shared. As the multi-film project is currently dealing with alternate dimensions, multiverses, and variant versions of its many heroes and villains, it’s entirely possible that he could return in a different role like Downey Jr. is doing in the same film. The actor even has some experience with this, as he had a small role in 2024′s “Deadpool and Wolverine” when he brought back Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, from Fox’s early-2000 “Fantastic Four” duology.
As such, “Avengers: Endgame” is already boasting the return of two fan-favorite actors and the beloved Russo Brothers in the director’s chair. Whether or not this means the return of Steve Rogers’s Captain America or not, the fact that Evans is returning could be powerful enough for fans to rush back into theaters once the movie releases on May 1, 2026.
Captain America’s wish to return is coming true
Evans himself has always been vocal about his openness to returning to the MCU, even stating last year that he would “never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience. But I’m also very precious with it. It’s something that I am very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it even happened. And I wouldn’t want the black eye if it felt like a cash grab or if it didn’t live up to expectations or if it just felt like it wasn’t connected to that original thing.”
Ever since the exit of Evans and Downey Jr., Marvel Studios has been struggling at the box office with all of their experimentations and attempts at topping their previous efforts. Could this be the break they’ve been looking for to pick up the pace once again?
