Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer director, admits he wants to direct the next James Bond film
After Oppenheimer, Nolan would like to direct a James Bond movie, citing the franchise as a large inspiration in his work.
Christopher Nolan is sure that his future will not go through superheroes again. However, the director of Oppenheimer looks favorably on getting behind the camera for the next James Bond film. In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Deadline), the filmmaker shared his opinion on having the chance to take the reins of such a project.
Nolan wants to direct James Bond, but several circumstances must be met
“It has to be the right moment in your creative life where you can express what you want to express and really burrow into something within the appropriate constraints because you would never want to take on something like that and do it wrong,” Nolan says. “You wouldn’t want to take on a film without being fully committed to what you bring to the table creatively. So as a writer, casting, everything — it’s a full package.”
Nolan acknowledges that James Bond movies greatly influenced his work. So much so that for him it would be “an amazing privilege to do one.” Conversations with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, producers behind the 007 license, have taken place over the years and they now know his respect for the character. It is not the first time that the director opens up to the possibility. During the marketing rounds of Tenet in 2017, he had already mentioned his desire to maintain an open dialogue with those responsible to make it possible.
The race to direct the next James Bond film is going hand in hand with the search for who will be the new 007. We already know two names that fall out of the bid: Liam Neeson and Idris Elba. At the time, Henry Cavill chased after the role before Daniel Craig finally took it on. Will he be in the competition again? Those responsible will not look for young actors in the style of Tom Holland, so it’s possible.
