Chrono Trigger celebrates 30 years with teased “beyond the game” projects
A year of celebrations begins for the beloved time-traveling RPG.

A legendary milestone has been reached. Chrono Trigger, the timeless JRPG that has captured the hearts of generations, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Square Enix has announced that it will be commemorating this momentous occasion with a series of projects that aim to “go beyond the world of the game,” promising a year of exciting content for fans.
The announcement, made via Square Enix’s official social media channels, has ignited a wave of excitement among the gaming community. The company’s statement mentioned: “As we mark the 30th anniversary, we will be launching various projects that go beyond the world of the game over the next year to express our gratitude to everyone who has played Chrono Trigger so far,” the company stated. It’s also worth noting that, in the aforementioned Twitter post, Square Enix made sure to pay its dues to the original creators of Chrono Trigger, writing: This timeless masterpiece was a dream project by Dragon Quest’s Yuji Horii, Dragon Ball’s Akira Toriyama, and Final Fantasy’s Hironobu Sakaguchi.”
While Square Enix has kept the specifics of these projects under wraps, they have revealed that the celebrations will unfold over the next year. The only concrete event announced so far is a dedicated livestream showcasing the iconic music of Chrono Trigger. Scheduled for March 13th at 7 PM PST, this musical tribute will be available on YouTube, allowing fans to relive the game’s memorable melodies.
The ambiguity surrounding the other projects has naturally sparked a frenzy of speculation. Could we be seeing a long-awaited remake, a sequel, or perhaps a completely new venture within the Chrono Trigger universe? For now, fans will have to wait patiently and see what the next year brings, but one thing is certain: Chrono Trigger’s 30th anniversary is shaping up to be a celebration worthy of its legendary status.
