Clayface’s first trailer showcases Matt Hagen’s horrifying transformation and the darkest side of the DC Universe

It’s been three months since we got our first look at ‘Clayface’, the upcoming film set in the new DC Cinematic Universe directed by James Gunn. He showed us that it will be a pure, unadulterated body horror film where the terror is not only physical but also psychological. And now we have a more in-depth look at how Matt Hagen begins his transformation. You can watch the trailer, below:

What will ‘Clayface’ be about?

According to its official synopsis, the upcoming DC Studios film reads: “Matt Hagen’s (Tom Rhys Harries) meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting-edge treatment that miraculously restores him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, sending him spiraling down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.”

Directed by James Watkins and with a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, ‘Clayface’ combines striking visuals with a gritty narrative; this film will tell the origin story of this classic Batman villain, but with a terrifying twist, marking the first time the DC Universe fully explores horror and pure suspense on the big screen. The film also stars Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan, as well as Nancy Carroll and Joshua James.

We had previously seen Clayface in ‘Monster Commando’, the animated series that kicked off the new DCU.

‘Clayface’ will premiere on October 23, 2026.
