‘Creature Commandos’, the first entry of James Gunn’s DC Universe, gets a release date of MAX
The first animated series of James Gunn’s new DC Cinematic Universe now has a release date for 2025.
We’re getting ever closer to the start of James Gunn’s new DC Universe, which after erasing any trace of the Snyderverse, gives a new beginning for the house of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and many other characters. As we have known for some time now, the first entry into this new setting would be ‘Creature Commandos’, an animated series with a premiere scheduled for this same year 2024, for which we finally have confirmation.
James Gunn’s DC Universe starts at the end of 2024
However, we will have to wait no less than until this December to be able to enjoy this series, with no specific day defined yet, but arriving as an exclusive to MAX. This has been revealed during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, while also revealing that several of the characters from ‘Creature Commandos’ will make an appearance in ‘Superman’, directed by Gunn himself, which will be the first film in this new universe that he wants to connect not only through films and tv shows, but also video games and comics.
The voice cast for ‘Creature Commandos’ is truly impressive, and will include Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, David Harbour as Erik Frankenstein, Sean Gunn, as G.I. Robot and Weasel, Maria Bakalova (Cosmo in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’) as Ilana Rostovic, and Anya Chalotra (Yennefer in ‘The Witcher’) as Circe.
“‘Creature Commandos’ is an animated series, I have written all the episodes,” Gunn explained a few months ago about this series. “Something we are going to do differently at DC is have characters both in animation and outside of animation, and often with the same actor playing them in animation and in live-action”.
