Cyberpunk 2 is progressing well, as CD Projekt RED confirms a new development milestone
The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is progressing well, but its release is still years away.

Despite its rocky launch in 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 ultimately became a major success for CD Projekt RED, thanks to:
- The Phantom Liberty expansion, which has now surpassed 10 million copies sold.
- The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, which revitalized interest in the franchise.
- Continuous gameplay improvements that won back fans.
With this strong foundation, CD Projekt RED has officially entered pre-production on Cyberpunk 2, formerly known as Project Orion.

Development teams and long-term plans
The sequel is being developed by CD Projekt RED’s new teams in Boston and Vancouver, with the goal of creating a new benchmark for futuristic RPGs.
Currently, 96 developers are working on Cyberpunk 2, while the majority of the studio—over 400 employees—are focused on The Witcher 4, which is in full production.
Cyberpunk 2 is still years away
While development is progressing well, CD Projekt RED has indicated that its AAA development cycle typically takes 4–5 years.
Given that Cyberpunk 2 has just entered pre-production, analysts estimate a potential release window between 2030 and 2031.
