Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

Fans of CD Projekt RED and Cyberpunk 2077 have quite a big month ahead of them, as the game’s first and only expansion, Phantom Liberty, is set to release in just a few wells. Coming in a month already packed full of huge releases, this expansion is not a simple DLC, instead bringing basically an entire reboot to the gameplay, weapon systems, perks, and mechanics of the sci-fi RPG.

So what exactly can you expect when you jump into Night City once again? There’s of course an entire new questline involving rescuing the president, dark deals with the government, new gangs, allies and enemies, and an entire new region to play in. But when does it come out? On what platforms? How about its PC Specs? Below you’ll find everything we know

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty - what is it about?

As mentioned above, Phantom Liberty is a full-fledged expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. In it, players will venture back into Night City for a new storyquest, which will take place at some point in the middle of the main story. While you won’t have to play from the beginning to experience what it has to offer, it’s possible to play through the game from scratch and stumble upon this quest organically. However, the developers have also revealed that they’ll give players the option to simply jump into the new content.

The official synopsis of this expansion reads as follows: “Phantom Liberty is an upcoming spy-thriller expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. Return as cyber-enhanced mercenary V and embark on a high-stakes mission of espionage and intrigue to save the NUSA President. In the dangerous district of Dogtown, you must forge alliances within a web of shattered loyalties and sinister political machinations. Do you have what it takes to survive?”

While there are still not many details about the story, one of the big characters in the expansion is FIA Agent Solomon Reed, a character portrayed in voice and face by none other than Idris Elba. Keanu Reeves also reprises his role as Johnny Silverhand, having come back to record his voice once more, so he’ll be an active participant in the story again.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty - Gameplay changes

CDPR has previously revealed that this expansion comes with a cavalcade of changes to basically all of the systems in the game. So far, they’ve confirmed a complete overhaul to the cop system in the game that will now work in an incremental way, chasing after the player depending to the crimes they make. Vehicle combat is also coming to the game, with new weaponized and armored cars available to get, as well as car chases around the city.

Gangs will also have a bigger and more natural presence in Night City, which means that you might encounter more random events as you play. And of course, the developers have been working to completely renew skill trees, leveling up, how abilities work, and adding new weapons, clothes, and more.
