Daredevil: Born Again pauses its production amidst writers’ strike
More groups join in protest with the screenwriters of Hollywood, resulting in the complete halt of the Daredevil: Born Again production.
Hollywood trembles. The strike called by the Writers Guild of America(WGA) threatens to paralyze numerous productions. The many writers that form the guild now star in this new strike almost 15 years after the last big one with the aim of improving their working conditions. In this situation, the feud between studios and workers is beginning to be noticed through series and movies being affected. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power or The House of the Dragon may be safe (apparently), but Daredevil: Born Again has had to halt production.
“WGA members on strike set up a sunrise picket at Silvercup East, where they’re supposed to be filming “Daredevil,” but members of the Teamster Local 817 and IATSE Locals 829 and 52 are refusing to cross the picket line.”
Solidarity with the scriptwriters on strike
Both groups have sympathized with the scriptwriters and have decided not to go to work, so there has been no choice but to suspend production. Warren Leight, one of the protesters, celebrated the small victory on Twitter:
“Looks like we’re done for the day at Silvercup East as Daredevil has called their day in response to a #WGASTRONG picket with line help from @SAGAFTRA and #Local802. Thank you @IATSE, #Local829, and many Teamsters for not crossing the line”
What will this delay mean for the Disney+ project? It is still too early to tell if the schedule will be affected, but the strike has only just begun. Daredevil: Born Again brings Charlie Cox back as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, the superhero who faced Kingpin in the beloved Netflix series, who will once again be played by Vincent D’Onofrio. It’s not clear if this is a full continuation of this, or if its a sort of soft reboot of the characters..
The premiere of Daredevil: Born Again is still scheduled for spring 2024.
