While yesterday we told you something as interesting as the fact that Nic Pizzolatto from True Detective was joining the new and long-awaited reboot of Blade, the mythical vampire hunter franchise, the news that we share with you today is not exactly as exciting. It turns out that the project has just been paused by Marvel, due to the writers’ strike that is taking place in Hollywood right now.

The aforementioned Nic Pizzolatto, screenwriter of the acclaimed True Detective series, was to be in charge of Blade, whose filming was to begin this June. However, now everything is up in the air and we will have to wait and see what will happen over the next few weeks. Mahershala Ali will play the titular Blade, which many of you will remember from the original film, in which the leading actor was Wesley Snipes.

Why is there a writers strike?

The great trigger of the crisis is, as you can imagine, the incursion of AI (artificial intelligence) in the film industry. A technology that for many is a great advance for humanity, while for others it is a double-edged sword that leads them to fear the stability of many jobs in the near future. Writers, and therefore the film industry, is undoubtedly one of the most affected sectors.

The WGA (Writers Guild of America) has called for the regulation of Artificial Intelligence and the prohibition of its use to rewrite the writers’ material or be trained from previous work to imitate a style and create new texts with it. A measure that the big film studios have rejected, creating discomfort among creatives.

In this article We tell you more about the writers’ strike, something that seems to be going long since it is not easy to foresee a point of understanding between the parties involved.
