Update:

10 Chambers, the studio behind the critically acclaimed GTFO and the vision of the creators of PAYDAY, is set to release Den of Wolves, a first-person co-op game that promises to redefine the genre.

Set in the dystopian Midway City, a corporate metropolis built on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, players will immerse themselves in a world of industrial espionage, sabotage and assassination, working as criminals for hire for rival corporations.

Innovation and accessibility: the keys to Den of Wolves

In a post-hands-on chat, Simon Viklund, co-founder of 10 Chambers, the game’s audio director and composer, revealed key details about Den of Wolves. Viklund stressed that unlike GTFO, Den of Wolves is designed to be more accessible and to foster a healthy community. “We want to make it easy for players to get along,” Viklund explained, stressing that design decisions are focused on facilitating cooperation and the enjoyment of team play.

One of the most notable innovations is the “immersion” mechanic, which allows players to hack human neural networks and explore surreal mindscapes, adding a layer of complexity and originality to the gameplay. The game also combines traditional shooting with dynamic missions that alternate between stealth and action, providing a rich and varied experience.

Viklund also emphasized the importance of Den of Wolves to the studio. “It’s a make-or-break situation for us,” he said, noting that 10 Chambers is not a large publisher and that this project represents a significant gamble. The quality and success of the release is crucial, and the studio plans to use the early access model, similar to GTFO, to engage the community from the earliest stages of development.

Audio and design improvements

The development of Den of Wolves will benefit from the lessons learned from GTFO. Viklund explained that the new game will have a more sophisticated sound design, thanks to the talents of lead sound designer Alexi. “We are treating the sound with live mixing and equalization, which allows for a more immersive listening experience,” he detailed.

The game will also feature a weapon crafting and customization system that will allow players to build their arsenal by earning loot in missions. While these features are still in prototype form, they promise to add depth and customization to the game.

The future of cooperative Heists

Den of Wolves positions itself as an ambitious title that aims to revolutionise the cooperative attraction game genre. With its innovative “immersive” mechanics, accessible design and focus on cooperation, 10 Chambers hopes to appeal to a wide audience and build a strong community. The game promises to be an immersive and exciting experience where strategic planning and teamwork are critical to success.
