Denis Villeneuve shares more details about what we can expect in ‘Dune: Part 3’

Dune: Part 2′ has been one of the biggest releases of 2024 for the film industry. A film that has managed to be a resounding success with critics and audiences, but whose work has not yet finished, as its director, Denis Villeneuve, is already working on a third installment that will close the story of Paul Atreides and the rest of the characters of the films. The Canadian director spoke about the third part in an interview with The New York Times, confirming that he is already working on the script.

Referring to Chani, the character played by Zendaya, Villeneuve talks about the film and points out that “That anger (felt by Zendaya’s character at the end of Part Two) is tremendous. I don’t want to reveal what I’m going to do with the third movie. I know exactly what to do. I’m writing it right now. But there’s a lot of firepower there, and I’m very excited about that decision.”

‘Dune’, a trilogy that’ll make history in cinema

Denis Villeneuve recently spoke to Empire Magazine, confirming that he “did both movies back-to-back, which makes absolute sense for me. I felt that it was a good idea to move forward right after Part One. We were already designing, writing et cetera. But it also meant that for six years I was on Arrakis non-stop, and I think it will be healthy to step back a little bit. First, make sure that we have a strong screenplay. The thing I want to avoid is not having something ready. I never did it, and now I feel it could be dangerous because of the enthusiasm. We need to make sure all the ideas are on paper.” Statements that, based on what has currently been said, show that the third part, based on ‘Dune Messiah’, is in very good hands, not only because of the quality of the trilogy so far, but also because Villeneuve declared not to get involved on it until he had something relevant.

In our review of ‘Dune: Part 2′, we highlighted that “it is an extraordinary film that connects directly with the viewer through the senses, a visual spectacle like few others, with images of great beauty and a soundtrack that is one with the sands of Arrakis.”
