Disney+ is raising its prices and going after password sharing
Big changes in pricing are coming to Disney+, which has chosen to take a page from Netflix and also tighten their grip on account sharing.
Disney+, one of the most popular streaming platforms in the world, has announced a hefty price hike in the United States. This increase will arrive on October 12 and will see an increase of 27% over its current pricing, going from $10.99 to $13.99. In addition, as if this were not enough, Disney has declared that it is looking for ways to take action against shared accounts, but plans to do so in 2024.
Like Netflix, Disney+ opts for changes that do not benefit users, in a world of streaming which makes it increasingly difficult for many users to have several platforms. For now, the price increase has been announced only for the United States, but an increase in the subscription cost has also been confirmed in Europe starting in December.
An ominous Disney+ price hike
Disney has announced that it is going to expand its monthly plan with ads internationally to Canada, the United Kingdom, and eight other European countries, and the price will be €5.99 per month. All of the countries mentioned will see an increase in the price of the regular subscription tier without ads starting from December 2023.
The increase in the cost of subscriptions to Disney+ and other streaming services is beginning to be a common dynamic, and this will be the second time that its price has increased in less than a year. The North American company has highlighted that subscription plans with ads have been a complete success, and it is possible that this type of subscription model will begin to be a constant in the industry of streaming platforms. Meanwhile, users will continue to suffer from various price increases and limitations or prohibitions to use shared accounts. What Netflix started is beginning to be the general trend.
