Disney Pixel RPG mixes the best parts of Kingdom Hearts and Lorcana with awesome pixel art

A new Disney game is on its way to mobile devices, both iOS and Android, and when it arrives it’ll bring together characters from all of its franchises, as well as alternate versions of themselves. Titled Disney Pixel RPG, the new 8-bit adventure launches in Japan in September 2024, with a global release planned for a later date.

Developed and published by GungHo Online Entertainment, Disney Pixel RPG will be a gacha RPG featuring alternate versions of beloved Disney characters, including Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Baymax from Big Hero 6, Stitch, Genie from Aladdin and many more. Set in a realm where game worlds intersect, you’ll join forces with these characters with your own avatar, and set off on expeditions to face off against a mysterious programs that are breaking down their realities.

According to the game’s own website, “The game world that these Disney characters call home have suddenly been invaded by strange programs, and are starting to break down. These previously isolated game worlds have merged, throwing all the characters into confusion. Take on the role of a player of these games and join Disney characters as you embark on an epic quest across multiple game worlds to restore order.”

A hidden collaboration with another Disney game?

As of right now, only users in Japan can pre-register for when the game launches on September 9, 2024. There are currently no details about when it may become available in other territories, but the game is already listed on the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store, in which it’s been revealed that the title will be free-to-play, but will feature microtransactions.

Curiously, the art is similar to 8-bit renditions of certain Lorcana cards that have been previously released, although there is currently no word on whether or not that is intentional, or if they’re connected in any way. Lorcana, an official Collectible Card Game of Disney characters, launched last year to great success, mixing alternate versions of characters to battle their own dark enemies.
