Disney is experiencing an outstanding moment, as the North American company is turning 100 years old this October. And it looks like they have big plans to celebrate, as Bloomberg has now reported that Disney is trying to acquire Electronic Arts or an equally important company to publish games under its brand once again. Bloomberg highlights that some company executives are advising Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, that the acquisition of EA would transform the company from licensee to publisher.

EA spoke last year with Disney about its purchase plans and also did so with NBCUniversal, Amazon, and Apple. EA’s contacts with NBCUniversal failed to make progress. A historical figure in the world of entertainment who in recent years has continued to be linked to the industry thanks to all the licenses it has, but the possibility of returning as a publisher could be closer than we think.

Disney’s great legacy in the video game industry

This October Disney turns 100 years old, and since its birth, the company’s history has done nothing but grow and develop around all types of entertainment media. The video game industry is no different, and for many years the North American company stood out as a developer and publisher under the Disney Interactive Studios brand.

Created in 1988, all types of systems have seen Disney brand video games, both their own and those of other studios published by them. Especially recognized is the 8-bit and 16-bit era, with titles such as DuckTales, Aladdin, and The Lion King among many others. A long career from which works such as Kingdom Hearts in collaboration with Square Enix were born, and which in its last stage stood out for Disney Infinity, a game that once canceled meant the studios closed in 2016.
