Does Silent Hill 2 Remake look that bad? Comparison to the original game
The trailer of the game at the State of Play left fans cold, and the first face-to-face with the original was not long in coming. There are changes, that’s for sure, but... is it enough?
The first State of Play of 2024 left us with a new trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remake that didn’t convince everyone. It is true that fans of James Sunderland and Pyramid Head have always been very jealous of their legacy. The most loyal to the saga have been critical of this revival since they met the developer at the controls (Bloober Team, creators of Layers of Fear). But what if they were right?
Presenting the remake of one of the best survival horror games in history with a trailer about action and combat is the kind of misstep we were expecting. Remember that Bloober’s first statements about the game already talked about changes that set off all the alarms. We all suspected that the studio had not quite understood what made the original title so special (its setting and its ability to suggest). But that’s what we expected. What no one expected, however, was that Silent Hill 2 Remake would draw attention to the visuals... for the worse.
Neither the camera, nor the lighting, nor especially the animations have pleased the community. Even less so when we live in the golden age of remakes and enjoy wonders like Dead Space, Resident Evil 4, Persona 3, or even Metroid Prime revisions. The comparisons to the original Silent Hill 2 did not wait, and they indeed soothe the displeasure because they denote a big change, but just look at the YouTube comments to see that even in them people do not remove the feeling of being faced with a low-budget project.
Silent Hill: The Short Message, the positive note
Perhaps to compensate for the cold water that has meant that Silent Hill 2 Remake still has no date on PS5, Konami announced yesterday the surprise release of Silent Hill: The Short Message.
We are talking about a new game of the saga free and available on the PlayStation Store, which lasts 2 hours and has served to Konami to train their young talents and test new concepts and ideas that can be used later in future installments and survival horror. An experiment, at the end of the day, to which it is not superfluous to give a try this weekend.
