‘DOOM: The Dark Ages’ revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase

The Doom Slayer returns to bring punishment to the creatures of hell, but this time the action is about to get medieval. And it’s coming to non-Xbox consoles!

Update:
‘DOOM: The Dark Ages’ revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase

The next installment in the DOOM series is coming, we’ve finally caught our first glimpse of it during the Xbox Games Showcase of Summer 2024. Opening the event, the has been in development at id Software for around four years (almost at the same time the incredible DOOM Eternal was released), and it will take us all the way to the Middle Ages where, apparently, Doomguy was also present and fighting demons.

Titled DOOM: The Dark Ages, this installment seems to maintain all the hallmarks of the saga, or what is the same, it seems to be a shot of adrenaline straight to the heart with an endless amount of shootouts and action whose design is light years from the rest of the genre. We still don’t have a definitive release date, but it will arrive sometime in 2025 on Xbox, PC, and surprisingly also on PlayStation 5.

Xbox games are coming to PS5

For some time now it has been rumored that Microsoft is considering abandoning Xbox exclusivity for its games, instead launching its entire catalog on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. It is more than just a rumor, since a few months ago we already had the release on certain first-party games on other platforms, such as Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment. and Grounded.

The Xbox Games Showcase was then presented as the perfect opportunity to clarify the brand’s future strategy. The first game announced and the first Xbox first party titles to release simultaneously on PS5. DOOM: The Dark Ages and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will set the console war aside and allow as many players as possible to enjoy their proposal.

Microsoft says it wants to go case by case, but every day there are more sources ensuring things like Halo remasters for PlayStation 5 and even predictions of versions of Starfield and Hellblade 2 on PS5. Are we heading towards a future with Xbox as a third party?
