Dragon Ball Daima’s big reveal about Namekians makes King Piccolo a better villain
The true origin of Piccolo’s race rewrites the history of some of Akira Toriyama’s most famous villains.
‘Dragon Ball Daima’ started off very strong with several revelations about the universe created by Akira Toriyama. One of them was the revelation of the origin of the Namekians, the mysterious race to which characters like King Piccolo, Piccolo., Kami, or Dende belong, all through Neva, an ancestral Namekian who lives in the Demon Kingdom. And it is precisely this revelation that makes one of the most iconic characters of the first ‘Dragon Ball’ series a better villain: the demonic King Piccolo.
The Demon Origin of King Piccolo
The explanation that the Namekians do not come from Universe 7, but from the Demon Realm, explains many of the peculiarities of this race, especially King Piccolo and his dark powers. In addition, ‘Dragon Ball Super’ offers some more information about this people, when an older Namekian explains to the younger ones the possibility that other beings of his race live on other planets, opening the door to the existence of other Dragon Balls, adding that their origin is not from Universe 7, but from another realm.
All these details, reinforced by the big reveal of ‘Dragon Ball Daima’, make the King of Demons, King Piccolo, a much more interesting villain. In the past, King Piccolo was seen as an outsider among his own kind, more of a monster than one of them. Now, with his origins in the Demon Realm, his motivations are much better explained, a sort of glimpse of the original Namekians of the Demon Realm, with evil intentions, sharp fangs and dark powers.
Ever wondered why the Namekians have four fingers in Akira Toriyama’s original manga and five fingers in Toei Animation’s anime? Here’s the answer.
