‘Dragon Ball Super’ hides a transformation so powerful it would humiliate every Saiyan: “Not even Broly could win”
Akira Toriyama confirms Cell Max’s perfect form would have been unstoppable, even against the Legendary Super Saiyan.

In the world of 'Dragon Ball’, few characters rival Broly in raw power. His uncontrollable rage and overwhelming strength have made him one of the most feared warriors in the franchise, capable of overpowering even Goku and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan Blue forms. It took the fusion into Gogeta to finally subdue him in 'Dragon Ball Super: Broly’. But according to Akira Toriyama, there’s one character who could have defeated Broly with ease: Cell Max.
Toriyama: “Not even Broly could defeat Cell Max”
In a 2022 statement tied to the release of 'Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’, Toriyama revealed that Cell Max, the monstrous antagonist of the film, was awakened prematurely. Had he reached his perfect form, the consequences would have been catastrophic.

“If Cell Max had been completed as planned, he would’ve been a superhuman that not even Broly could defeat,” Toriyama explained.
Instead, Cell Max was activated early by Magenta, resulting in a mindless kaiju-like creature that lacked the intelligence and combat strategy of the original Cell. His massive size, chaotic energy blasts, and lack of control made him a terrifying force, but also a vulnerable one.
What a perfect Cell Max would have meant
Toriyama emphasized that the heroes were lucky. A fully evolved Cell Max would have retained his monstrous size and brute strength, but also gained the tactical intelligence and technique mastery of his original perfect form. That combination, Toriyama suggested, would have made him the most dangerous villain in 'Dragon Ball’ history.

Even Gohan Beast, who ultimately defeated Cell Max in the film, might not have stood a chance against a perfected version. The idea of a villain with Broly-level power and Cell’s cunning is enough to send chills down any fan’s spine.
