‘Dungeons and Dragons’ gets live-action series on Netflix with ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ director
‘The Forgotten Realms’ is in development and is a high priority project for Hasbro.

According to Deadline, Netflix is preparing a live-action series based on the epic fantasy saga Dungeons & Dragons. According to sources consulted by this media, the project, titled ‘The Forgotten Realms’, is underway by producer and director Shawn Levy (Deadpool and Wolverine, Stranger Things), while Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) has joined the project as writer and showrunner. Hasbro Entertainment, which owns the brand, will also be involved in the series.
The story will be set in the Forgotten Realms, one of the worlds of ‘Dungeons and Dragons’, like the acclaimed Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which will be released in 2023. Crevello will write the pilot, serve as showrunner and executive produce the project alongside Levy and Dan Levine, though neither Netflix nor Hasbro would comment on the matter. Just because a show is in development doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to happen. However, Hasbro has been working on the idea for some time.
The original project did not flourish.
In 2021, the company’s subsidiary, eOne, mandated that the Dungeons and Dragons series be a priority. Filmmaker Rawson Marshall was initially on board, later joined by Crevello himself as showrunner. In early 2023, Paramount+ was to be the home of the series, with Paramount Pictures, the studio behind ‘Honor Among Thieves’, also involved, but the project didn’t go ahead. The sale of eOne has prompted Hasbro Entertainment to take the reins of development, although this new production is different from the previous one.
One of the most successful video games set in the D&D universe is Baldur’s Gate 3.
