EA Motive joins the development team for the Battlefield series, but what about their Iron Man game?

The devs of the upcoming Iron Man game, EA Motive, have announced they’ve been assigned to the development of the next Battlefield, but they promise it’s still a priority.

Electronic Arts wants to give a strong boost to the Battlefield franchise after Battlefield 2042 wasn’t very well received at launch, even though they’ve continued working on the title with a very positive turnaround ever since. Their new strategy is based on some of its studios collaborating in the development of future entries, among which are Criterion Games, Ripple Effect, and EA Motive, all of whom will join DICE.

It is a strategy similar to that carried out by Activision Blizzard with Call of Duty, with studios such as Sledgehammer Games, Infinity Ward, Raven Software, and Treyarch working on said series. However, it is striking for EA Motive to be one of those studios, given that the studio founded at the time by Jade Raymond (formerly of Ubisoft) is currently working on a game starring none other than Iron Man. Will this project move forward?

EA remains committed to Tony Stark

“In parallel, development continues to move forward on our Iron Man project, led by Olivier Proulx (Executive Producer) and Ian Frazier (Creative Director),” said Patrick Klauss, general manager of the studio, on the team’s official blog. “The team made excellent progress this year, hitting a major internal milestone and laying a robust foundation for the journey ahead. Iron Man is an important priority for Motive, and I’m very proud of the work we’ve accomplished so far.”

It was last October when it was revealed that EA Motive was the studio behind Iron Man, a game that was announced in September 2022. “We’re still early in pre-production and taking our time to make sure we set the best possible foundation for development,” they said then. “But already, we’re finding so many opportunities to explore story, design and gameplay with Iron Man, and it’s exciting to see the fantasy start coming alive.”

What is certain is that Iron Man will be, as they said at the time, a third-person action game and completely single-player, although it cannot be ruled out that other game elements could be introduced as a service as with other superhero titles, such as ‘Marvel’s Avengers’ or ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’.
