Eiichiro Oda reveals the ‘One Piece’ devil fruit he would eat in a heartbeat
The creator of Luffy’s adventures reveals the two powers he would like to have, and they’re really fun.
One of the most surprising and representative elements of ‘One Piece’ are the Devil Fruits and the powers they provoke in those who consume them. From elemental powers like lightning or fire to transforming into mythological animals like dragons or phoenixes, the universe of One Piece is home to the most original and unexpected powers. So much so that fans of Luffy’s adventures have probably thought about which fruit would be their favorite, something that was also shared by series creator Eiichiro Oda, whose choice is very much in line with his carefree personality and peculiar sense of humor.
Eiichiro Oda’s two favorite devil fruits
In the SBS section of volume 11 of the ‘One Piece’ manga, Oda answered the question of which two devil fruits would be his first choice if he could eat two. Without hesitation, Oda chose Clear Clear Fruit and Warp Warp Fruit as his second choice. And while anyone can think of Sanji and his joke about making himself invisible to spy on women in the bathroom, Oda would rather use them to help people.
“Eeeh! I can have two?! Clear Clear Fruit (absolutely) and which one… Clear Clear Fruit (absolutely) and… uuuhh… Clear Clear Fruit (absolutely) and the Warp Warp Fruit (objective decision)! I-it’s so I can save people (nominal reason)!,” Oda wrote in his usual style. And as fans of ‘One Piece’ will remember from chapter 464, Sanji admitted that his dream, besides finding the All Blue, was to become invisible.
While Sanji has never shown any intention of eating a Devil Fruit, he did admit in chapter 464 that the only exception to this rule would be to eat the Clear Clear Fruit. However, Sanji’s dream was cut short when he discovered that Absalom had eaten the Clear Clear fruit instead, causing him to hold a grudge against him during the battle in Thriller Bark.
Mind you, just like Oda, Sanji’s intentions for becoming invisible had to do with saving lives or doing good, although the recurring joke of spying on women in the bathroom or locker room shows Sanji’s true perverted nature... Something Oda already addressed in another fan question about Luffy, Chopper or Usopp’s intentions in trying to spy on Nami and Vivi during the bathroom scene in chapter 213:
“Why, you ask? Well, that’s because they are all healthy boys,” Oda said, adding, “I don’t think there needs to be any other reason than that. But for Chopper, he might have done it just because everyone else was. Frankly, to not want to peep on a beautiful girl when she’s naked is a great disrespect to that girl in my o—ahem, I mean, in Sanji’s opinion,” Oda concluded with some irony.
