Eiji Aonuma would love to see a Legend of Zelda movie

The producer of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom pronounces himself as a supporter of bringing the franchise to the big screen with a movie adaptation.

Update:
Eiji Aonuma

The incredible success of The Super Mario Bros Movie has led us to think that Nintendo may already be considering bringing some more of its franchises to the big screen . And which one is bigger in the big N after Mario? Well yes, The Legend of Zelda, at an unbeatable moment after the launch of Tears of the Kingdom. The game’s producer, Eiji Aonuma, has spoken about this possibility, and he seems delighted with the idea.

“I have to say, I am interested. For sure,” says Aonuma in an interview with Polygon. “But it’s not just me being interested in something that makes things happen, unfortunately.” A proposal that, of course, is seconded by the director of Tears of the Kingdom, Hidemaro Fujibayashi, who believes that “Maybe the voice of the fans is what’s important here.”

Fujibayashi talks about the dungeons

One of the aspects that fans of the franchise liked the most about this new title, probably due to their absence in Breath of the Wild, are the dungeons, made more in the traditional style of the series. Fujibayashi also talks about it in the same interview.

“I mean, there’s no specific title that really had a huge impact,” says the director, asked about the previous Zelda games that had the most influence during development. “But I was involved with Breath of the Wild, you know, and one of the themes for Breath of the Wild was “moving dungeons.” And I was also involved with Skyward Sword, and that had more of the hardcore, standard puzzle-solving dungeons. And I felt like I had a good idea of what the fans like about those two things. So I feel like I attempted to take those things and put them together into one sort of hybrid format. That’s what Tears of the Kingdom is.”
