Sony Pictures

El Muerto, the Spider-Man spin-off with Bad Bunny, has stopped its production

A Bad Bunny representative has confirmed that El Muerto, the Spider-Man spin-off about an undead luchador anti-hero, is no longer in active production, but its not canceled.

Update:
El Muerto

It seems like Bad Bunny’s debut in a leading role in the cinema will take some more time since the production of El Muerto has found itself “in hiatus”. This was announced by the representative of the Puerto Rican singer, assuring that, despite what it looks like, the movie is not in danger of being canceled.

Scheduled to be released at the beginning of next year, 2024, everything seems to indicate that it will not arrive on time at all. With a brief appearance of only three issues, Bad Bunny is preparing to play Marvel’s first Latino superhero, but according to his representative, production has stopped, although at the same time he assures that “it is in development.”

Real name Juan Carlos Estrada Sánchez, the Mexican luchador is part of a family of wrestlers who inherited for generations a mask that gives them special powers and abilities. To do this, they must first defeat a powerful fighter known as El Dorado, something that Juan Carlos refuses to do, so El Dorado ends up killing his father. He gives Juan Carlos 10 years to train and defeat an enemy and strip him of his mask, an enemy who turns out to be... Spider-Man.

Kraven, another spin-off on the way

El Muerto is not the only Spider-Man spin-off that is in development in Sony Pictures, since Kraven the Hunter is also arriving soon. Its premiere should take place this coming October, and its protagonist will be played by Aaron Taylor Johnson, whom we know for his leading role in the hilarious Kick Ass and Kick Ass 2, as well as having also appeared in Bullet Train, where, curiously, Bad Bunny had a minor role.

The cast of Kraven the Hunter is rounded out by Russell Crowe (in a role to be determined), Ariana DeBose (Calypso), Fred Hechinger as Kraven’s brother Dmitri, and Alessandro Nivola in an unknown role.
