Ewan McGregor wants Obi-Wan in this acclaimed Star Wars series, but there’s a small problem
The Star Wars actor has expressed his desire to continue playing the iconic Jedi Master.

One of Ewan McGregor’s recurring aspirations is to continue portraying Obi-Wan Kenobi, a character he played in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and, more recently, in the Obi-Wan miniseries. While there is always the possibility of seeing more of the Jedi Master and his story, there was a point where he could have appeared, but that opportunity has now passed.
During a panel at Fan Expo Chicago alongside Hayden Christensen, McGregor shared his love for the Disney+ Star Wars series Andor, which he ended up binge-watching all 24 episodes of. In addition to enjoying the episodes with his son and admiring the work of the series starring Diego Luna, the actor came to a realization, albeit a little late for his character.
“I missed it when it came out. I always come to things late,” McGregor told the crowd. “I watched the first episode of it at home with my little boy and then I realized what everyone was talking about. I watched all of the first seasons and all of the second season just on my own without him because I just couldn’t wait to get through it all,” McGregor admitted. “I thought it was great. I really liked it.”
“I got really excited. I was thinking, ‘I think I’m in this timeline, I think I could be in season 3!’ And I got super excited,” McGregor recalled. “And then I realized, ‘Oh no… There can’t be a season 3!’”
Andor and Obi-Wan never met
Although it would have been great to see Ewan McGregor in his Jedi robe again, it would certainly have been unlikely. Season 2 of Andor serves as a direct prequel to 2016’s Rogue One, which ends just where Star Wars: A New Hope begins. In addition, one of the premises of Andor is to see the Star Wars world as more political and focused on the lives of ordinary people during the days of the Empire.
