Facebook session timed out error: what happens and how to fix it
Facebook and Instagram users were logged out this morning and have been unable to log in, with only “session expired” error messages. What’s going on?
(Update, 11:30 AM) Users are reporting that Facebook and Instagram are slowly coming back online.
If you opened your Facebook or Instagram account this morning and instead of entering your feed you were taken to the home page with a message saying “session expired”, and despite entering your passwords you got an error and when you tried to restore it it said “something went wrong”, you have not been hacked and you are not the only one. Users around the world are reporting a major outage in the services of these social media sites, preventing users from accessing them.
Meta networks are down
Around 10:00 AM ET, users began reporting login errors on both Instagram and Facebook. However, this is not limited to login, as those who managed to keep their session open on Instagram are reporting “Couldn’t load posts” messages. For its part, Facebook’s Messenger service, although now managed as a separate app, is also not working.
This is already reflected on sites like DownDetector, where we can see the increase in the number of reported outages just a few minutes ago:
Both Facebook and Instagram are part of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg’s company, of which WhatsApp is also a part (and has no problem so far). For now, and given that they can not use their own social media, there has been no pronouncement from the company regarding this error. For their part, the accounts they maintain on Twitter / X have not published anything about it at the time of writing.
How to fix Instagram and Facebook the login problem?
Although there are ways to fix the Facebook and Instagram login problem, apparently this indicates that it is a direct Meta problem, so the only thing users can do is wait and remember what life was like before the use of these social media. Go and enjoy this late morning without the social pressure of uploading content to your social media.
