Fallout: Where does the Prime Video show fall on the timeline

The Fallout series on Amazon Prime Video is an amazing adaptation of the Bethesda franchise, but is it part of the official timeline of the video games?

Update:
Fallout

The live-action Fallout series on Amazon’s Prime Video has finally released, and already fans of the games and curious onlookers have delved into the first season and its amazing representation of the Wasteland. But now that its events are clear for everyone to see, some have started to wonder where exactly does it fit in the franchise’s timeline.

It’s been confirmed that the show is 100% canon to the Fallout universe, which means that it isn’t an adaptation of any specific storyline from the games. But now we’re starting to see the implications of that and the show’s producers comments about how they’ve basically made “Fallout 5″. Is it closely interconnected with the rest of the games? Could we see old characters showing up in the show?

When does the Fallout TV show take place

According to the title cards introducing the events of the show during its first episode, Fallout takes place both in the series past in 2077, at the tipping point of the nuclear war between the United States and China, and 219 years later, in 2296.

This places the series at the furthest point in the franchise’s timeline, 11 years after the events of Fallout 4, and over a hundred years after the original Fallout. As such, no game has touched on the era of the show so far. Below is a list of where each installment of the franchise stands on the timeline:

  • Fallout 76 – 2102
  • Fallout 1 – 2161
  • Fallout 2 – 2241
  • Fallout 3 – 2277
  • Fallout: New Vegas – 2281
  • Fallout 4 – 2287
  • Fallout TV show – 2296

What this all means is that the show has a lot of liberty to explore the Californian Wasteland without much issue, as even though its the first time we’ve seen the Los Angeles area since the first game, it’s been so long that factions and characters have undoubtedly changed ever since. At the same time, we’re able to see the inclusion of the latest technology developed by raiders, survivors, the Brotherhood of Steel, and the Enclave without issues.

This is even more exciting in regards to the end of the season and its teases for a potential Season 2, as the series finale suggests a visit to New Vegas. Largely regarded the best in the series, New Vegas has a lot of factions in play and many places to visit, as well as some of the most likely characters the protagonists of the show could meet up due to many of them being long-lived or immortal due to their various natures.
