Update:

The summer blockbusters are in full swing, and the next one that is about to arrive is the long-awaited return of Marvel’s First Family with Fantastic Four: First Steps. We already know the different characters that will arrive in this movie and a few days before its theatrical release, Marvel has revealed the first official photo that confirms the appearance of Mole Man on the MCU.

In this image revealed by USA Today, we can see actor Paul Walter Hauser (Cobra Kai, Black Bird) taking on the role of the comic book villain. Since May 2024, Hauser confirmed his participation in the film, although he couldn’t mention anything about the role he would be playing. At the time, Hauser mentioned to Deadline “I can’t say anything about the character I’m playing, but know that it is in the sort of lexicon and mythology of The Fantastic Four stories.”

What can we expect from Mole Man in Fantastic Four: First Steps?

In an interview with USA Today, Matt Shakman director of Fantastc Four: First Steps described this version of Mole Man in the MCU as “really more of a union boss than a supervillain.” To this, Hauser adds that his character “is living sort of in the shadows like a villain would, but he’s also taking care of an entire race of people and trying to live his life without being bothered.”

Harvey Elder, better known as Mole Man, is the first villain the Fantastic Four faced in Fantastic Four issue #1 in 1961. Elder is a nuclear engineer and explorer who believed in the Hollow Earth theory, and on an exploration he falls into a huge cave that leads him to the subterranean realm of Subterranea. However, this discovery left him with damage to his vision, thus taking his name as a villain.

Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released next week, on July 25.
