Fatal Fury Gets the ultimate treatment in Bitmap Books’ latest illustrated history

Bitmap Books has announced a brand-new book dedicated to one of SNK’s most iconic fighting game franchises. Following the success of The King of Fighters: The Ultimate History in 2022, the publisher has officially released Fatal Fury / Garou Densetsu: The Ultimate History, an illustrated deep dive into the legacy of the legendary series.

Fatal Fury / Garou Densetsu: The Ultimate History delivers exactly what longtime fans of the franchise would expect: a carefully curated visual and historical journey that spans from the original Fatal Fury released in 1991 all the way to the recent Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

According to its official description, the book is “a comprehensively written and gorgeously illustrated love letter to fighting game fans, full of history, lore and fascinating insights into the development of the series.” Across 460 pages, readers will find an extensive visual archive chronicling the evolution of Fatal Fury, including its connections to other SNK titles, the design philosophies that shaped the franchise, and detailed breakdowns of each of the series’ seven main entries.

The book also features a rich collection of promotional artwork, concept sketches, and behind-the-scenes material, alongside interviews with key creators such as Hitoshi Okamoto, Youichiro Soeda, Nobuyuki Kuroki, planner and designer Takeshi Kimura, and SNK fighting games chief producer Yasuyuki Oda, who also wrote the book’s foreword.
