Final Fantasy Resonance is the first game in the series to feature HD-2D graphics, coming to PC and consoles later this year
Square Enix surprises fans by announcing a new Final Fantasy title with truly unique art.

Just when it seemed like all the big announcements from the Nintendo Direct had already been leaked, Square Enix popped up out of nowhere to announce Final Fantasy Resonance. It’s the first game in the series to feature HD-2D graphics and will be released on October 22, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
To the surprise of all fans of the franchise, we are now looking at an offline, remastered version of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, a mobile game that amassed over 40 million downloads but unfortunately shut down its servers in 2025. Thus, Square Enix presents a Final Fantasy brimming with nostalgia and references to its early installments, inviting us to embark on adventures with Rain, Fina, Lasswell, and the gang. Additionally, it has been confirmed that the game will feature hero summons from other installments, such as Cloud and Terra, that it will not include a gacha system, and that it will be priced at $49.99.
The future of the Nintendo Switch 2 is very exciting
Beyond everything announced during the latest Nintendo Direct, owners of the hybrid console have plenty of reasons to be excited about the rest of this year and 2027. In the coming months, the Nintendo Switch 2 catalog will expand with standout titles such as the remake of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox, the new Fire Emblem, Splatoon Raiders, and The Duskbloods.
