Square Enix

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth may be the last Final Fantasy exclusive for PS5

Changes in Square Enix’s strategy are presented in a report on its financial results.

Update:
Final Fantasy VII Remake

Square Enix has presented a report on its latest financial results that highlights the direction the company is taking and its commitment to the multiplatform format in its releases. This clashes with the strategy of two of its last major titles, Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which are temporary PlayStation 5 exclusives. Although their sales were excellent, the Japanese company may have had higher expectations and will now be focusing on a multiplatform launch strategy for all of its titles.

In the document, Square Enix emphasizes that it will “aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs.” Especially in regard to major franchises and AAA titles, we will create an environment where more customers can enjoy our titles.

Square Enix focuses on quality instead of quantity

The financial results report is notable for a business plan in which Square Enix shifts from “quantity to quality”. The Japanese company says it will “shift from quantity to quality as its medium- to long-term philosophy”. It remains to be seen how this strategy will play out, but in terms of quantity, there have been outstanding titles such as Star Ocean: The Second Story R, Tactics Ogre: Reborn, The Diocfield Chronicle or Live A Live, among many others, so we will have to see how the company defines the titles to be released, whether by reputation or by its proposal.

In the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth review done by Meristation USA, we point out that “when Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is at its best, it shines brighter than many other titles currently on the market. Its production values are unimaginably high, with fantastic graphics and highly detailed models that beautifully render classic characters in a whole new light. Its combat is absolutely thrilling when it takes place in a well-paced dungeon, and the 4-act format to boss encounters is back to keep you on your toes with some of the most involved fights RPGs have ever had”.
