Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Confirms its release date and emerges as the big strategy game of 2026
The latest installment in the series is the flagship strategy game of the year.

The Nintendo Direct on June 9 made one thing clear: the second year of the Nintendo Switch 2 is built on a solid foundation of exclusive titles. The latest addition is Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, which already has a release date: it will arrive on September 17, 2026.
Fire Emblem, one of the cornerstones of turn-based strategy
Ever since Fire Emblem Awakening revived the series on the Nintendo 3DS, no Nintendo console has missed out on a new installment (with the exception of the Wii U, for obvious reasons). It was the handheld that received a solid lineup of titles—both remakes and new releases—which laid the groundwork for the major release on Nintendo Switch: Fire Emblem Three Houses.
With the millions of consoles the Japanese had released onto the market, Three Houses was more than just the first entry in the series on that hardware. It marked the first time a new audience experienced the formula, and they were captivated by the three storylines to choose from and the potential of a genre not often seen in AAA titles. Perhaps that’s why Fortune’s Weave resonates so deeply with this installment.

The Nintendo Switch saw another installment that would bring the series’ chapter on the platform to a close. Under the title Engage, the game focused more on a classic experience that left little room for the interpretation of new systems. Furthermore, its background (and narrative) were aimed squarely at the die-hard fan. The sheer number of references and characters from its long history was hard for newcomers to follow, but a treat for those who’ve been a fan their whole lives. Both are available on Nintendo Switch 2 thanks to backward compatibility with its predecessor.
