First look at Gandalf in season 3 of ‘The Rings of Power’: The wizard already looks just as everyone imagines him
The character’s appearance is much closer to that in Tolkien’s work.

A pointed hat and a beard. In his hands, he holds a wizard’s staff. That is the image people have of Gandalf the Gray, one of the main characters in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ saga. The description of the wizard in J. R. R. Tolkien’s novels carries over into Peter Jackson’s films and now also into the series ‘The Rings of Power,’ whose third season will premiere on November 11 on Prime Video.
Gandalf, played by Daniel Weyman in the series, appears in the first two seasons, but his true identity isn’t revealed until the end of the second. We first met him as “The Stranger,” a mysterious character with magical powers who has completely lost his memory. Thanks to the furry Nori, he is able to rediscover himself and find out who he really is.
The image is from Empire magazine, which interviewed Weyman. You can see it in the tweet below.

The New Gandalf in ‘The Rings of Power’
Before production on the third season began, the showrunners, J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, told him they wanted to portray Gandalf’s arrival in grand style: “We want to see him as the wizard we all love from Tolkien’s writings,” they told him. “I found this new side to him. The mischief, the twinkle in his eye.”
For Weyman, wearing the hat has been “unbelievably spine-tingling.” He had to pinch himself to believe it. According to Payne, Gandalf will have to learn to control his powers and understand his prophetic role; he’ll also have to realize that “his job is to inspire the people around him to find the courage to unite against the darkness.”
