First official image of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel Studios projects a handful of new images from the MCU at a drone event in Shanghai.

Update:

We finally have the first official image of Robert Downey Jr.’s new Doctor Doom from Marvel Studios, following the character’s first glimpse, seen from behind and fleetingly, in a post-credits scene from ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps.’ Thanks to a drone event organized by Marvel in Shanghai, we now have a clear image of what Marvel Studios’ most iconic villain will look like, a very comic-book-inspired design that has caused a sensation among superhero fans and that we will see in all its glory in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’

‘Avengers Doomsday’: this is what Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom looks like

Thanks to this spectacular new light and drone event organized by Marvel Studios, its creators have projected a handful of images of what’s to come in the MCU, especially in the upcoming crossover event films, particularly ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which will hit theaters worldwide in December 2026 and is currently in production with dozens and dozens of Marvel actors and actresses.

Thus, we see a Doctor Doom very much in line with the Marvel comics, with a fearsome metal mask and imposing armor partially covered by the classic green hood and cape. Not a single key detail of the character’s costume and appearance is missing, and parts of the outfit have been meticulously crafted in terms of surface and texture changes, as can be seen in the mask itself, the bracelets, and the classic metal circles on the upper chest.

But we haven’t just seen a clear image of his appearance; he also appeared seated on his famous throne next to what looks like a highly advanced technological device that he surely uses to travel through the multiverse. But there’s more; the event has also given us new glimpses of the most prominent logos of the characters who will play a relevant role in ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’

The symbols of The Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, and Wakanda have appeared, suggesting that Doctor Doom will, in one way or another, have to face all of these superhero groups or teams. In addition, the screening also showed a recreation of a legendary Marvel Comics panel in which Doom grabs Thanos’ skeleton.

We will have to wait until December 18, 2026, to find out all the details and surprises of one of the most anticipated films of all time: ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ Before then, however, we can enjoy another MCU film that is almost as eagerly awaited as the multiversal crossover with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ which is currently in production and scheduled for release in July 2026.
