First trailer and release date for ‘Minecraft’ featuring unrecognizables Jason Momoa and Jack Black

Minecraft’ jumps from the video game to the big screen with a proposition that brings together renowned actors like Jason Momoa.

Who hasn’t played Minecraft? The success of Mojang, since 2014 under the mantle of Microsoft, confirmed some time ago its transfer to the big screen. Now it’s time to see the result captured. Minecraft” unveils a first trailer full of details for the most experienced eyes. Not only do we know the chosen visual style, but also the appearance of the cast that will bring the players to life. It will be released on April 4, 2025.

Minecraft’ brings realistic look and feel to the game

Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen are the colorful quartet chosen to walk through the mysterious door that leads them into the world of Minecraft. Momoa’s appearance is unrecognizable. A blonde fur and a short pink jacket are the elements that give shape to an outfit that is surprising, to say the least. In the trailer we can also see Jack Black, who will play the role of Steve, the blue-shirted character who in the video game holds many secrets that are not visible to the eye.

Production company Legendary has chosen the same treatment as Detective Pikachu for the Pokémon world. Instead of staying true to the look of the game, we see the Creepers and the environment outlined with realistic textures. It breaks completely with the brand identity. It is also true that it is difficult to translate the voxel style to a movie aimed at a mainstream audience. In addition to seeing it as part of the brand, it takes on an extra point of relevance to know how the filmmakers imagine the Minecraft universe with a special kind of animation.
