The second season of ‘Squid Game’ is now available on Netflix. It’s a direct continuation of the story that follows Gi-hun, the winner of the trials - and the prize - in the first season. Watching it this weekend? Then you might want to brush up on some key story concepts.

What is the ‘Squid Game’?

It is a macabre game consisting of a series of trials in which all participants risk death. Each time a life is lost, the final prize for the winner increases by the equivalent of $100 million, a system designed to make contestants value the possibility of killing others to win more money.

Who participates in the ‘Squid Game’?

It is not possible to join the game voluntarily. You have to be invited by a mysterious man who is looking for people who are in a particularly vulnerable situation, so much so that they have nothing to lose. Huge debts that could lead to repossession, exorbitant prices for the treatment of family members in urgent need of medical care...

Who organizes the games

In one of the most unexpected twists in the first season of “Squid Game,” it is revealed that it was Yeong-su, who was suffering from cancer and about to lose his life, who decided to create the game and become one of the participants. This was made possible by the huge fortune he possessed.

The winner of the ‘Squid Game’

In the edition of the game that runs throughout the first season, the winner is the protagonist, Gi-hun, who wins the financial prize after his opponent, Sang-woo, commits suicide. In Season 2, Gi-hun wants revenge, so he uses the money to track down the current organizers of the game, in order to infiltrate them and try to hunt them down.

Who is Hwang Jun-ho and what is he after?

The plot of ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 is divided into two parallel stories that are supposed to intertwine. Hwang Jun-ho infiltrated the games posing as a soldier in search of his brother who, after a long disappearance, turned out to be a key player in the organization of the trials. In the second season, Jun-ho continues to search for him, certain that he is still alive.
