Fortnite added a way to censor “confrontational” emotes
Epic Games is implementing a new feature to hide “confrontational” or “aggressive” emotes and dances in Fortnite, and the player community is divided.
Fortnite is once again in the eye of the hurricane due to a new and controversial option implemented with patch 29.30 of the game. Epic Games implemented a new feature that prevents viewing a variety of emotes/dances considered offensive and confrontational because they are usually used as a recurring taunt by players every time they eliminate an opponent. That is to say, when the option is activated, you won’t be able to see other players make these gestures to avoid feeling offended.
Fortnite wants to prevent harassment with a new option to censor its most “offensive” dances
In a blog post, Fortnite announced that with the arrival of patch 29.30 on April 23, 2024, an option has been implemented to avoid seeing what they call “confrontational emotes.” When a player does one of the emotes marked as “offensive”, we will instead see said player standing still, and without sound.
This option can be activated from the “account and privacy” section within the “social privacy” tab of the game settings. It has three degrees of adjustment: see anyone’s gestures, see only those of friends with whom we are playing, or not see those of anyone. Of course, Epic Games warns that activating the option does not effectively prevent other players or ourselves from using the gestures; we just won’t see them.
The reason Epic argues for having taken this measure is the fact that many players use certain gestures like a laugh with donkey braying or whipping the air as ways to mock and humiliate other people who have been eliminated. It is a measure that has raised controversy among fans of the game as one of the defining characteristics of Fortnite is its enormous variety of gestures.. Or what is the same: there are players who argue that this measure is, in a way, hypocritical.
What Fortnite dances does this new option affect?
The list of dances and gestures that this Fortnite option affects for now is as follows:
This list may be modified in the future by adding new gestures/dances or removing some of the existing ones.
