A Song of Ice and Fire

George RR Martin on ‘Winds of Winter’: ‘You guys don’t have to pester me about it”

The author behind the ‘Song of Ice and Fire’ novels(Game of Thrones) knows that he’s “12 years late”, but is also sure of the progress he’s made on the next book in the series.

Update:
George Martin

George RR Martin was seen this weekend at the presentation of ‘Sword Catcher’, Cassandra Clare’s (‘The Shadowhunter Chronicles’) new book. The author wanted to promote his friend, which ended up forcing him to once again answer all kinds of questions about his own projects, and more specifically about “Winds of Winter’, the sixth part of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ (‘Game of Thrones’). Exasperated, this was all he said:

“I’ve been working… I’m 12 years late with ‘Winds of Winter,’ … I’m just going to put it right out there, you guys don’t have to pester me about it.” Martin is quite aware of the situation, inviting instead to optimism, as the 75-year-old writer remains convinced that he can pull it off.

Twelve years of waiting

Twelve years have already passed since ‘A Dance with Dragons’ released, and impatience has taken its toll on many followers of the saga. We recently echoed a fan who finished ‘Winds of Winter’ with Chat GPT and that has been reported by Martin himself. The author is determined to release the book when the time is right.

We’ll see what comes first, the sixth novel or Martin’s new projects, as he seems never to stop delving into more and more adventures. In addition to ‘Winds of Winter’, the author has in his hands the sequel to ‘Fire and Blood’ (the book on which ‘The House of the Dragon’ is based) and a ‘Game of Thrones’ sequel series about Jon Snow).

Martin’s latest update on his blog already announced progress. “I’ve been working on WINDS OF WINTER. Almost every day. Writing, rewriting, editing, writing some more. Making steady progress. Not as fast as I would like… certainly not as fast as YOU would like… but progress nonetheless. It keeps me out of trouble.”
